For the assessment of the health and reproductive status of fish we carry out histopatolgical, immunohistological and parasitological investigations (fisheries, aquaristic, biomonitoring, laboratory studies).
In this regard we possess several years of experience in the field of hormone physiology investigations such as determination of hormone titers in the blood, representation of metabolic pathways and the identification of hormone-dependent proteins (e.g. estradiol-controlled yolk protein vitellogenin).
We have developed a “normal table” of the gonadal development and of the seasonal reconstruction of gonads of the two dominant domestic species in the central European fish fauna (Rutilus rutilus, Perca fluviatilis), based on an investigation of more than 3000 fishes in the course of several years. This enables the recognition of deviations from the “normal” development and predictions of impairments to fish populations in terms of an early warning system.
Parasitological Investigations
The GOBIO GmbH team includes experts for parasitological investigations of fishes. Our team is experienced in the diagnostic of parasitic diseases (including specific viral and bacterial infections) of river, aquarium and food fishes.
Fishes are frequently infected with parasites in nature. Many of these “blind passengers” use fishes as their habitat with little or no impairment to the hosts. A strong proliferation usually only takes place when fishes are weakened through unfavorable conditions, such as bad water quality.
The GOBIO GmbH possesses extensive data regarding the natural levels of parasitism in fishes, which is the main prerequisite for recognizing deviations and disorders in ecosystems based on the health state of fishes.
Particularly the spreading of new diseases due to environmental pollution or to climatic changes requires several years of experience in the diagnostic of parasitic, bacterial and viral diseases.
